Fort Chillon celebrates Carnival

Carnaval au Fort de Chillon

During the school holidays, Fort de Chillon celebrates Carnival.

At the Fort de Chillon Museum, this year's carnival has an Alpine theme, combining ancient traditions and family entertainment. The aim is clear: to highlight carnival traditions across the Alps, some of which are still little known, and to offer fun and educational activities for families and children.

A mini-exhibition will be set up in several areas of the fort. In the Dufour Room, visitors will be able to watch a film about the masks of the Lötschental valley, accompanied by large photographic panels presenting the tschäggättä, as well as three traditional masks. The officers' lounge will host a photographic exhibition dedicated to Alpine carnivals, with images from Evolène, the Great St Bernard Pass, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

The animations

In terms of entertainment, there will be several highlights throughout the February vacation. Monday, February 16, Tuesday, February 17, and Thursday, February 19 will be costume days. Children aged 6 to 15 wearing costumes will be admitted free of charge between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

On Tuesday, February 17, Mardi Gras day, a gourmet break will be offered at the Bistrot du soldat with a crêpe tasting from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: one crêpe per person, drinks not included.

Free carnival mask-making workshop

Mask-making workshops will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15, Wednesday 18, and Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February. From 2pm to 4pm, children can design and make their own mask or mountain creature. This activity is included in the ticket price.

Finally, on Friday, February 20, a parade entitled “Chasing Away Winter” is planned, with musical entertainment featuring drums at various times during the afternoon, at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m., subject to confirmation. It's a festive way to conclude a program dedicated to Alpine traditions and sharing.
