Photo exhibition at Fort de Chillon
A detail that makes all the difference
May 7, 2025 – The Fort de Chillon Museum has commissioned PhotoClub Lausanne to design a unique exhibition that reflects the history of the site.
The exhibition will be closed on the following dates: June 21, June 26, June 27 (morning), July 2, July 11 (morning).
The exhibition Un détail qui fait la différence, on view from May 16 to July 13, 2025, invites visitors to take a closer look at their surroundings. The photographs on display highlight those little things that we don't pay much attention to, but which nonetheless tell a lot to those who take the time to discover them.
An invitation to see things differently
Initiated by the Fort de Chillon Museum in collaboration with the PhotoClub Lausanne, this unique exhibition brings together some 80 photographs that celebrate the importance of observation and attention to detail in everyday life. Like the Fort de Chillon, hidden in the landscape, certain elements of our environment go unnoticed. The works on display invite visitors to imagine, interpret, and even guess what lies behind each image, and to rediscover the world through fragments.
“Although no images were taken inside the fort, the exhibition resonates with it,” explains Christophe De Rham, director of the site. “However, the members of PhotoClub Lausanne were inspired by the playful and interactive approach that characterizes a visit to the fort. The resulting projects reflect this,” he adds.
Between independent projects and creative collaborations
Twenty members of the PhotoClub Lausanne freely explored the theme of detail. They present personal projects ranging from single images to photographic series. Some photos play on the association between street art and a scene from real life, or highlight a singular element in the midst of a crowd, emphasizing the beauty of what often escapes the eye.
“Observing and knowing how to look are essential qualities for a photographer,” emphasizes Nicole Richli Meystre, president of PhotoClub Lausanne, who enthusiastically embraced the theme.
Some of the projects presented:
• Alpine epidermis – A series that invites you to contemplate the graphic design of the alpine soil, revealing unexpected textures and patterns.
• Domino – A visual game where the viewer is invited to spot a hidden element in the middle of a row of dominoes.
• Which clock for Cinderella? – A narrative project in which, from among seven photographed clocks, you have to guess which one could have changed the fate of the famous heroine.
The exhibition also includes collaborative creations, which are essential to the club's dynamic. Among them is Ma Suissitude: six members each took a photo symbolizing their personal vision of Switzerland, which was then transformed into 25-piece puzzles. A mosaic of 36 photographs, captured at the Château de Chillon—a fortress from another era—completes the exhibition, which is brought to life by lighting effects that highlight each image in turn.
A first Museum Night for the fort
For its very first participation in Riviera Museum Night on Saturday, May 24, Fort de Chillon invites the public to discover the temporary exhibition “A Detail That Makes All the Difference” in a nocturnal atmosphere conducive to observation and curiosity. At the same time, the site will come alive with memories, with former soldiers from the Swiss fortress troops on hand to recount life within these walls between 1942 and 1995. This is a rare opportunity to talk to those who lived through history... and bring the fort back to life!
